Florida Roof Insurance Law Changed July 1, 2026 (HB 815)

Insurance companies can no longer cancel or nonrenew your homeowner's policy solely because of your roof's age. If your roof is 15 years or older, your insurer must allow you to get an authorized roof inspection before requiring replacement. If the inspector says your roof has 5 or more years of useful life, they cannot drop you. For low-slope roofs, a roof coating system may qualify instead of a full replacement. You have rights. We can help you exercise them.

How Roof Insurance Claims Work

When a storm damages your roof or your insurance company threatens to nonrenew your policy because of roof age, the claims process can feel overwhelming. Trini Homes Inc has been helping Florida homeowners through this exact situation since 2008. Here is how it works:

1

Free Roof Inspection

We inspect your roof, document damage, and tell you honestly whether a claim is worth pursuing.

2

Insurance Documentation

We photograph everything, write a detailed report, and help you file the claim with your insurance company.

3

Adjuster Meeting

We meet your insurance adjuster on-site to make sure all damage is documented and nothing is overlooked.

4

Roof Replacement

Once the claim is approved, we replace your roof. You pay your deductible. The insurance claim covers the rest.

Trip charge applies before any on-site inspection. We do not roll a truck without it. The inspection itself is free. PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo accepted.

Why File an Insurance Claim Instead of Paying Out of Pocket?

A new roof in the Gainesville area costs $7,500 to $12,000 depending on size and materials. Most homeowners do not have that sitting in the bank. But if your roof has storm damage - wind, hail, debris impact - or if your insurance company is pressuring you to replace it because of age, you may be able to file a claim and pay only your deductible.

Florida deductibles are typically 2% of your home's insured value. On a $250,000 home, that is $5,000. The insurance claim covers the remaining $2,500 to $7,000. That is the difference between a roof you can afford and one you cannot.

The key is acting before your insurer nonrenews you. Once you lose coverage, your options shrink. Under the new Florida law (HB 815, effective July 1, 2026), you have the right to an inspection first. We help you get that inspection, document the damage, and file the claim while you still have coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my insurance premium go up if I file a roof claim?

Premiums can increase after a claim, but in Florida's current market, premiums are rising regardless. Filing a claim gets you a new roof for your deductible instead of paying $7,500-$12,000 out of pocket. The roof replacement often improves your home's wind mitigation, which can offset future increases.

What if my insurance company already sent me a nonrenewal letter?

Under HB 815 (effective July 1, 2026), your insurer must allow an authorized roof inspection before requiring replacement. If the inspector finds 5+ years of useful life, they cannot nonrenew you solely for roof age. Call us immediately - we can help you get that inspection and document your roof's condition before the deadline in your letter.

My roof is 20+ years old. Can I still file a claim?

Yes. Older roofs are more likely to have legitimate storm damage - lifted shingles, cracked tabs, granule loss, impact marks. We inspect every roof honestly. If there is damage that supports a claim, we document it. If there is not, we tell you straight.

What does the trip charge cover?

The trip charge covers our fuel, time, and the initial site visit. The roof inspection itself is free once we are on-site. We accept PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo. We do not schedule a visit without it - this keeps our schedule tight and our customers serious.

Do you work with public adjusters?

Yes. We partner with public adjusters who specialize in roof claims. If your insurance company underpays or denies a valid claim, the adjuster fights for the full amount. You pay your deductible; the claim covers the rest. We handle the roof. They handle the paperwork.

What roofing materials do you install?

We install asphalt shingles (GAF, CertainTeed), metal roofing, flat/low-slope roofing (BUR, EDPM), and roof coating systems for low-slope roofs that may qualify under the new Florida coating standard. We are GAF Authorized and CertainTeed Certified.

Do Not Wait Until Your Insurer Cancels You

If your roof is 15+ years old, you have options under Florida law. Let us inspect it first.
